Constructing a cinderblock shower in a bathroom for instance is easier than building a shower stall from scratch outside of the home. Ventilate and dehumidify the area before during and after the installation because basement walls are usually susceptible to moisture. For tiling over tiles in bathroom walls you ll need to set up sheets of waterproof membrane in between the concrete wall and tiles. You can get this from construction or hardware stores.

The question is how far up the walls does it go. Spend time prepping a cinder block wall before placing the tiles on the surface to ensure a long lasting and beautiful structure.

Find out why you can apply a tile mastic right on top of paint if it is well adhered to the cinder block and not loose. If the shower was going to see a lot of use or if the adjacent walls needed it i would put up kerdi membrane over this to keep water out of the wall. I say fur cement board tile to the top of the cinder blocks. My wife is not so sure.

Otherwise i would just put up the tiles over the cement plaster. For the shower floor consider using snapstone porcelain tile that snaps together and floats. Installing tile over a cinder block wall can not only raise the aesthetic of the structure but also increase its water resistance and insulation capabilities.
