How to use tile spacers.
The proper spacing for wall tiles two and four inch tiles.
After your first tile is laid put a spacer.
Therefore the spacing is predetermined.
The unique shim like design allows wedges to be pushed in or pulled out to adjust the position of tile up to 1 8 in while also holding the tile in place.
A tight 1 8 grout space will allow the pattern to flow nicely from one tile to the next.
Two inch tiles are factory spaced and sheet mounted.
For regular format tiles between 12 by 12 and 16 by 16 inches you can stay with those measurements or go up to 3 16 depending on the tile and the look you want.
Lay your first tile in line with your reference point either the chalk line or laser level.
There is less irregularity with rectified tiles so less spacing is needed between each piece.
For large format tiles 18 by 18 inches and larger you can actually get away with very tight grout lines of 1 16 inch or even 1 32 inch usually created by the lugs.
There are many styles of spacers and they are are available in sizes ranging from 1 32 inch to 1 2 inch although 1 8 inch 3 16.
This creates a smooth final space that looks like solid tile.
